"Lube" is the single most searched word on this site. Here is the price map, the sizes, and how to choose without reading a chemistry label.
Prices by size
- 25 to 50 ml sachet or travel bottle: UGX 15,000 to 23,000. Ten to fifteen uses. The right first buy: you learn what you like for the price of a lunch.
- 200 ml: UGX 35,000 to 45,000. Two to three months for a couple.
- 400 ml pump: UGX 40,000 to 50,000. The best value per use by far, and a pump is easier one-handed.
- Flavoured or warming, 100 to 200 ml: UGX 25,000 to 40,000.
Pharmacy prices in Kampala for the same sizes are similar or higher, and the choice is usually one brand in one size.
Which type
Water-based is the default. Safe with condoms and every toy, washes off with water, no stains. Its only weakness is drying out, which you fix with a few drops of water, not more lubricant. Silicone-based lasts longer and works in water, but must not touch silicone toys. Oil-based and massage oils feel luxurious and break latex condoms; they are for massage and for couples not using condoms. The full comparison goes deeper; the two-minute finder picks one for you.
The one ingredient to avoid
Glycerin in high amounts, and anything "tingling" or "warming", if you are prone to thrush or irritation. Glycerin feeds yeast. A plain water-based formula with no fragrance is the safest for sensitive skin and for anyone using lubricant daily for dryness rather than for sex.
How much to use
More than you think. The commonest complaint, "it dried out fast", is usually "I used a pea-sized amount". Start with a ten-shilling-coin amount, add water if it thickens, add more if it fades.
Delivery
A bottle fits in a plain padded bag with nothing on the outside. Kampala in 1 to 3 days from UGX 10,000, pay at the door; elsewhere in Uganda in 3 to 7 days. Nothing on the receipt or in any message names the product. Browse the lubricant range.
